Aarti Pole is an award-winning Canadian journalist, national anchor, educator and mentor who has spent nearly two decades reporting on the stories shaping Canada and the world.

Aarti is a national anchor with CBC News Network, where she hosts CBC Newsroom with Aarti Pole, bringing live and breaking news to Canadians across the country. Her work spans politics, international affairs, business, social issues and major national events. She is particularly passionate about bringing diverse voices and perspectives into the national conversation and ensuring that the people most affected by major stories have an opportunity to be heard.

Before joining CBC News Network, Aarti was the Washington Correspondent for Global National and one of the first female Indo-Canadian television correspondents based in the U.S. capital.

 

She covered the 2016 U.S. presidential race, international politics and major breaking news, including the U.S. primary campaigns, President Barack Obama's meeting with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the mass shooting in Orlando.

Aarti began her journalism career in Terrace, British Columbia, and went on to work in Winnipeg, Vancouver and Toronto as a reporter, video journalist, radio journalist and anchor. She has covered elections, natural disasters, international affairs, major sporting events and breaking news, and has been part of award-winning CBC coverage, including the 2011 Stanley Cup riots and historic flooding in Manitoba. Her journalism has also received professional recognition, including the RNAO Television – Best News Report award.

Beyond the newsroom, Aarti is committed to developing the next generation of journalists. She has been a lecturer at Toronto Metropolitan University's School of Journalism, where she taught aspiring journalists and brings her experience as a national anchor and international correspondent into the classroom. She also mentors emerging journalists through the Canadian Association of Journalists and CBC's internal mentorship initiatives, with a particular commitment to supporting women and women of colour pursuing careers in journalism.

Aarti believes journalism is ultimately about people — whose stories are told, whose perspectives are heard and who gets a place in the conversation. Through her work in the newsroom, classroom and mentorship community, she is committed to making Canadian journalism more inclusive, representative and connected to the people it serves.

Aarti holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University. She is based in Toronto, Ontario.
